Model this?

I remember a thread about modeling realistically or artistic. This Sherman is a good example don’t you think? All the camo is definatlely what they did but would you cover up so much detail? Just curious.

I guess if I was building a dio I might.

I don’t build them so I never bother. I also like to build my models with very little or no mud at all. I like them to look dusty but not all dripping with mud. Thats probably because I see few muddy models that look realistic.

It comes down to what you feel is just right for you.

To me, that particular picture would be a good example of real life that wouldn’t translate well to a model.

didnt shermanfreak cover up one of his shermans completely? Its got to be pretty hard to do such a thing, but id like to,

I guess I could see doing it for a diorama subject and it would be fun.I always get torn when I’m building a kit. Do I just build it and let it sit or do I continue and eventually go all the way into a dio. I HAVE to learn when to stop!!!

IMO, that Sherman would look good in a dio but would look out of place if it were standing alone. I don’t know if I build realisticall or artistically. I usually just try to build, paint and weather it to make me happy.

Yeah, this topic has come up before. I think the whole point is to show the vehicle, not a tracked or wheeled foliage carrier. I remember being at a modeling show where two judges were debating (arguing) about just such a model. The argument stemmed from the “excessive” amount of twigs and branches on the tank as to whether or not the modeler was “hiding poor workmanship”. It turned out the particular model didn’t not ribbon. Whatever. I can only give my opinion, speaking only for myself, no way would I model that Sherman.

To model a model of any kind like that would be a waste of time unless part of a diorama and even then it would probably be to excessive in my opinion.

Seems to be decidedly “NO”. I’m with ya. I don’t know why I brought it up, sometimes when I’m doing reference I see picts. thar are cool but probably would’nt translate well. Just currious if I was alone in my thinking[8-]

Yes he did. He also put it into a diorama where it looked really fantastic in the setting he placed it in. It was very challenging he said, but well worth it when it was done.

That may be a future project. Always wanted to do a dio. of the crew camoin’ up.

I think it would be interesting as part of a dio, but not neccessarily stand-alone. But taking a close look at it, I dont know how effective that much improvised camo would be. Once the vehicle moves or a day passes and all of the leaves go limp, it is useless.
It does beak up the outline of the vehicle good, but I dont see how the turret can traverse without knocking alot of it off.

I looked at it, he did it for the sherman GB. It was pretty sweet even with all the detail covered, he made more detail!

Someday I do plan to do this, maybe if I get a bad paint job?[:0]

If your goal is to do dio that picture, and to make it as accurate as possible, then why not? Basically, its a matter of taste. One of these days, I might try it just to see if I can pull it off and make it look right.

I think (for what it’s worth) that if you wanted to do a dio of that vehicle, show it in the rear having the starts of the camo and in a scene showing the crew adding the branches and such. That way, you show detail and get to add some of the camo.

Ted, that’s just what I thought . I’ve caught on to a couple of cool tricks to make foilage so a build may be in my future!![8-]
