Finally got around to doing my model shelf so I could get my finished models out of boxes and off my workbench. My wife likes rustic stuff so I started poking around at black pipe shelf kits. They want so much money for those kits its insane. I poked around and found the flanges and pipes for very reasonable prices at supplyhouse.com. I stopped by Lowes and picked up 3 10 foot boards and my wife stained/painted to make them look like old barn wood. Anyhow, way cheeper and I’m happy and my models are safe I will say… 30 linear feet of shelving gets eaten up pretty fast!
You make a great pair. That tank looks great and so do those shelves. I wouldn’t even try to work that kind of magic on shelves. My shelves are either glass (in a curio cabinet) or plain unstained 1 x 12 pine.
I’ve been putting off doing something like that. I have absolutely no display space left. I bought and erected two bookcases, and am using an old 3-bay entertainment center.
I have added plastic doors to the bookcases, and will need to do the same to the new shelves I intend to build. They will cover one wall, floor to ceiling. Airplanes and cars can be easily cleaned, but the ships are very hard to clean, so I need a way to keep dust off of them from the beginning.
Ha! I’d love to bring that beast in the house :). I did just order the 2013 Boss 302. I’ll have some minor challenges converting to a Laguna Seca (particularly with the decals), but should be fun.
