This is slightly different to the normal subjects chosen but as I’m participating in 2 group builds I thought I had better reduce some of my workbench clutter and finish some partially built kits. A cold and intermitantly rainy weekend helped. This is the first finished, the car Chris Amon drove in the 1965 Tourist Trophy in England. The kit is by the French company Axel 'R and is a resin 1/43rd kit with vacformed screen and headlight covers and a p/e wiper, the rims are turned aluminimum with resin centres. It was painted with a Tamiya spray can.
This shows the fine instrument decals provided with the kit. In fact the decals all went on easily althoug the a decal softener was necessary for the front number 15 as it had to go over a compound curve.
The only thing still to do is the vacformed headlight covers. An easy kit to build and if I’d got on with when I’d first started it would have only taken a couple of nights work.

I don’t tend to highly polish the paint job on a car of this era because they weren’t highly shined as they are today. I will use the Tamiya polish to smooth out the final coat but not to impart a mirror-like shine - unless its a road car . The shine on this paint job is basically straight from the spray can. I never spray anything over the top of decals. However looking at vitually any racing car today from NASCAR to Aussie V8’s to F1 its apparent that most/all the script is covered with a high polished surface so I suppose any kit of a “modern” race car needs a Future or clear gloss over spray.
