I purchased a Model Master micro shear sprue cutter. On the card backing, it says that it was made by Xuron for Testors. Would anybody know what xuron shear model it is? I saw another model from ebay (170-II) at a considerably lower price but i am not sure if the model master packaging is actually a better one (i.e. designed for cutting sprues specifically). Any comment would be very welcome.
Have you checked the company’s website? If you browse around their products, maybe you’ll be able to match it up. Or you can look up the one that’s for sale and see what’s on the website.
I checked the websites and looked the the profile of the “modeling shear” (i am not 100% sure if this is the one repackaged under Model Master’s name) to the model i mentioned (they provide the measured drawings of some of their products) prior to posting. They looked awfully similar, the difference being only the length of the handle. i can’t firgure out why they would sell the modelling one for a higher price with such minor difference. I am also not sure if there is another difference that would prevent me from getting the best out of the tool if i purchased either one.
xuron and other manufacturers often will produce items to be labelled by other companies. micro mark, model masters, testors and many others will buy from an independant manufacturer and re label. sometimes they will be similar to the original manufacturers items, cometimes they will be a different model, sometimes at far less quailty than the original makers specs for their own products.
