Saw them twice, in Detroit (“Heroes” and “Last Stand” tours). Got to meet and take pics and autographs with Joakim and Par. Cool guys! I love small venues!!!
Now, If we could just get Sabaton, Kamelot, Gamma Ray, and Helloween together…that’d be a hell of a show!!!
Till 3:00 p.m. Pacific here, ambient noise till 5:00 p.m. when Tucker comes on if am still building. Used to get Lou Dobbs at 4:00 p.m., can’t find a “pirated” channel now. ok.ru has lots of classic war movies, move speakers in hallway to listen, “The Blue Max” fits whenever pine for Jerry Goldsmith music skipping the “love scenes” of course…
Taped old time mystery radio shows, corny but fun. Taped Prairie Home Companion, taped books on historical figures, Churchill, Ike, Patton and the like.
Music: Bluegrass, Elaine Page, Kanawa, Loreena Mc Kinnit, Ahmad Jamal, some light classical.
YouTube is my go-to source for music when I am building. The music genre is called “epic” and it’s quite good. The music doesn’t interfere with my work but does keep me motivated. My favorite composer is Thomas Bergersen.
I have an old iPod Classic with about 3500 songs on it. It’s set for random play, so I can hear anything from Enya to Johnny Cash to Casting Crowns to Patty Loveless to Chris Tomlin to Steven Curtiss Chapman to Allison Krauss to Trinity River band to Boston to…Well, you get the idea. I listen to just about anything except rap. I won’t call it stupid - just not my style of music.
I’ve been known to watch college football or listen to political talk radio while modeling. Or I listen to the score of either my favorite movies (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc) or a movie related to what I’m building. For instance, I listened to Hans Zimmer’s score for Dunkirk while building both the Spitfires I just wrapped up.
I have a you tube soundtrack playlist that I usually listen to when I’m building. As well as a good selection of soundtrack CDs that I put on to match the subject. Or playlists on my ipod. With my current project I have been listening to various film scores involving the Soviets…
My band Jazz Attack did one the first Live Aid concerts in London and then in Saint Andrews Scotland. After the concerts I went to see the lochness monster with whom did not obliged me. lol This was between 1984 and 1990 during the Pan American Lockerbie Scotland disaster, I wanted to travel to Ireland at Glasgow and I was asked about my sanity. Sim Fein was big then and the last thing the British wanted was an American Jazz musician shot dead in a crossfire.
All I listened to during that time was Led Zepplin and Boston even till this day! So when I’m building my kit any kit, and it seems too quiet, I’ll throw on some Song Remains the Same live version, Boston, Rush, and Emerson Lake and Palmer also known as ELP. Other music I fancy of course is jazz and I have some 4,500 jazz songs on an original iPhone I that I use as an ipod. So this is an eclectic vision of songs during my builds.
Depending on my mood, it is usually classical or instrumental rock. Three of my current favorites are " Scale the Summit ", " Russian Circles ", and " Im Karst ".
