MM Flat Acrylic v.s. Testors Dullcote?

I have always used Testors Dullcote for sealing decals and getting rid of glossy spots on my Armor models but I have recently seen a product called Model Master Flat Acrylic in my LHS and was wondering if I could use it as a substitute for Dullcote because of the fume issues and the damage Dullcote does to my airbrush. Has anybody used MM Flat Acrylic? is it a suitable replacement?

Thanks for any help,

Townsy,

I’ve used it to replace Dullcote for the same reason with no issues - just make sure you mix it well. The flattening agent tends to settle on the bottom. Actually I’ve tried to move all my painting to acrylic except for Alclad stuff. I’ve found PollyScale Flat to be a even better flat coat.

I use it exclusively and find it works well. Keep in mind, MM flat is FLAT, I mean FLAT! I mix the MM semi-gloss with it to take the edge off the flatness. I use 2 parts semi-gloss/ 1 part flat. That combo gives an invisible clear coat.

Thanks guys, I guess I’ll pick some up at the LHS next time I’m there.

will the MM acrylic go over MM enamels or other brands? i sometimes have the dullcoat go white and have to strip it and redo. i have been told there is no such problem with acrylic flats?

Hi Townsy,

I have resently moved to the Peterborough area and I am having a very hard time finding my supplies here. Could you share with me the name of your LHS? I would be greatful.
