MM enamel over MM Acryl?

Hey guys.

I need to touch up an area on the top of my F-15E wing with Gunship Gray and I ran out of the MM Acryl that I painted it with.
I do have some Gunship Gray in the Model Master enamel paint, but I was wondering if it might have any adverse reaction over the Future and Acryl that is beneath it? I hate to drive 10 miles to the LHS for a bottle of Acryl, but if that is the best bet then I guess I have to. What do you all think?

Mike,

I used to paint houses in the summer during college, and the rule was: you can paint water-based paint over oil, but you can’t paint oil over water-based. I think this may be true for modeling as well, but get a few more replies before you take my word for it.

Actually, some people use Future as a barrier against spraying lacquers over other types of paint so I was thinking it should be alright.
Actually, if you spray light, mist coats, you can spray lacquer over acrylics even though it is not really recommended.

yes mike, you can use enamel over future and acrylics. man, i wish it was only 10 miles to my LHS, try about 80 to mine. i guess that might be too tempting for me if it were closer. later.

if it dont, it’ll probably add some character. i mottled the last gray bird i did with lighter and darker shades of the base coat, then i took post it notes and masked off numerous panels and sprayed them lighter and darker shades as well. it gave a more realistic look for sure. of course, most, but not all, airforce birds are kept in mint condition just looking at the photos that ive found. navy birds look as if they just flew through 600 miles of grungy, poluted air. later.

If you make sure to let them cure, you can put either enamel over acryl or acryl over enamel. Just let them cure…

Just as Karl said, if you allow it to cure, it will be fine. I painted my Italeri Bigfoot with MM and Tamiya acrylics, but touched up and drybrushed with MM Enamels. I left the paint for a few hours and made sure it was fully dry. Nothing bad happened [:)]
