mixing with thinner.

i am with my project with 1/48 tamiya f-16, after i primed my model, i am now trying to paint my model with tamiya AS-27 (gunship gray).

my problem is, its okey to mixed the paint with acrylic thinner? or directly to apply the paint into my model?

any help and suggestion are highly appreciated…

How are you painting your model? AS-27 is a spray can lacquer and cannot be mixed with regular Tamiya X-20A acrylic thinner.

Being a spray lacquer, I’m not sure what sort of thinner would be appropriate if you decant the paint for airbrushing.

As of now, i finished painting with tamiya primer then preshading my model. i just thinking if i diluted it with some thinner, the effect of preshading will be seen. As you mensioned that AS-27 is a laquer paint, is it affect/distroy the primer paint on my model if i cover it with laquer paint?

You should be fine applying a lacquer top coat over the primer, as the primer is also lacquer based.

However, the question remains. How are you applying the colour coat?

If you’re applying it directly from the spray can there’s no way to thin it.

If you’re decanting the paint to apply using an airbrush, you shouldn’t need to thin it as it should be thin enough to airbrush and you can control the amount of paint delivered by the airbrush.

i decanting it. is it the same color the gunship grey to xf-54(dark gray)?

I believe XF-24 (Dark Grey) is a closer match to Gunship Gray than XF-54 (Dark Sea Grey)

hehehe, sorry, yeah your right, thats xf-24. thanks a lot again…

i will now start painting my f-16 today.
