mixing colors, flat verses regular

I am just in the beginning stages of planning out the building of Tamiya’s P-47M. It calls out 2 parts XF-5 (flat green) + 1 part XF-8 (flat blue) for the interior of the cockpit. I have neither, but I do have X-4 blue, and X-5 green. Tamiya does not list these with a particular sheen, just simply the color. Can I substitute them? Will it make a difference in the color when mixed?

The instruction call out XF-4 for the areas that would be zinc chromate. This mix for interior green will be considerably darker.

Flat vs. Gloss doesn’t matter, they will mix fine. I thought the whole interior was basically Dark Dull Green, or Green zinc chromate mixed with black?

I agree with Nathan- flat or gloss doesn’t make much difference. But there are a lot of shades of green available in paints, and likewise for blue. You’d need to mix up both colors and see the result before deciding if you can mix gloss blue with gloss green. Interior colors are more of a problem than exterior, because you can always simulate a weathered color but interiors do not weather nearly as fast as far as chalking and bleaching.

Thanks for the help. I am wondering if the colors will be the Same shade. All I really Care about is getting it close , not too far out there. I will experiment mixing small amounts to see what it looks like, I appreciate the input,

The flat colours and the gloss colours are really quite different.

The Flat Green is more an olive colour, the gloss green is bluer. The blues are close, but again, not the same shade.

That’s not good news for me, but excellent info. Much appreciated. I will have to do some research on what the correct interior color is for the P-47.

Dark Dull Green, or Tamiya Deep green is a good match-XF-26.
