Misty FAC F-100F 1/72 Italeri and 1/48 Hobbyboss Bf109G-6

Excellent idea! I will watch your build as I plan to build the 1/72 Trumpeter F-100C. I have built a lot of Trumpeter kits, mostly their F9F-2 Panthers and 1/350th ships. They are buildable but need a little TLC.

My last Trumpeter build, 1/72 Mig 29 9.13.

Back to the build. I started masking the top. Hopefully I can spray the bottom light gray tonight or tomorrow sometime.

Re your F-100 build. Looking good. As it happens my current build is an F-100D, Italeri kit. That’s useful info about the tail skid, I know how it goes now!
The hardest part I’ve found is trying to paint the burn marks on the rear of the fuselage to look realistic!

I made a template from post it note paper, one for right and one for left side. I will tape them to the rear fuselage after the camo colors are done and spray them aluminum.

Sort of like this idea.

The bottom is gray. Now to paint the wheel wells green then flip it and mask for the tan and green top side camo colors.

Here is the ESCI kit with the “floor” built in for the tail skid. Also here is the ESCI canopy. Does the Italeri F-100D still have the extra rib in the clear canopy? I dropped the slats on the ESCI kit.

Bottom masked and top painted tan, it also serves as a primer. Light and dark green top colors next.

The medium green is done, darker green next. I still need to spray the rear fuselage area that’s now plastic colored gray aluminum. Then when all the fuselage colors are done I can tape the masks on for the burnt area on the rear fuselage.

Airbrush or rattlecan?

Rattlecan, I had an airbrush in 1995 I think. Did a nice job but I have absolutely zero patience for trying to figure out air pressure, spitting nozzles or cleaning little nuts n parts and needles. I went to rattle cans and never looked back, besides most of my interest is in single color planes or simple camo schemes. No interest in Bf109 camo with those teeny tiney dots. They are nice but NOT ME!!!

A 1/48 Hobbycraft Bf109G-6 I experimented with a bizarre scheme. Sprayed the tan then layed out the squiggles with Silly Putty worms and got a sorta soft edge camo scheme. Rattle can at it’s best!

How strange, just saw this restoration at Steven F Udvar-Hazy. I did mine in November 2018. :upside_down_face: :upside_down_face: :upside_down_face:

Nice! Silly putty for the win!

Gonna try it again, the original silly putty Bf109G-6 was never finished, long gone. I will give it a go again, still have the original build log on a thumb drive. Kit ordered and on the way.
