I just discovered that my old Ebay purchased $7 1/48 P-38 is missing a part, a left main gear door, part #S70.
Anyone have a kit that’s trashed or parted out that would like to help me out? I’ve already started to make a new one but I’m not to sure how it’s going to turn out.
I agree with Bondoman, you’ll probably be able to make a replacement yourself, certainly faster than RM might respond. I say “might”, because the forum is full or posts about RM’s customer service and replacing parts. Some are negative, some are positive, but in either case, you could probably use a piece of can aluminum to trace from the other gear door and make a replacement.
I’m sorry, too, that I don’t have one, or I’d send it to you.
If you scratch your own, please show us your work!
The process has already begun to make a new one. I just hope it turns out looking like the original. No wait, better than the original.
I had planned to add detail and depth to the doors anyway but making a new one wasn’t in the plans. It’s a very simple part but it still contains compound curves and getting it right will be trial and error.
And hoping you don’t slice your finger off with the razor sharp aluminum can. Try to make it slightly bigger so you can bend the edges over to reduce the chance of a razor sharp edge unless you want to go with sheet styrene ribbing on the door since gear doors are not thin sheets of metal.
