Looking to score some points with my future father-in-law. He was in the ANG in the mid 1960s and flew with the MN ANG. According to my fiancee’s mom, the plane was big, high winged (how she knew that I’ll never know) and was painted in a dark green/black paint job, and she said it was a “C-180 or something”… obviously a C-130.
According to the MN ANG website, the unit flew C-97s until 1971 (when they transitioned to the C-130), and to my knowledge, they were all silver. The few slides that I saw about a year ago didn’t have a plane in the background, or were taken from inside the plane looking out a window… The C-97 was a low/mid-wing…so if anyone could help me out that’d be great. If he DID fly in a C-97, I’d love to see who made a kit of that…I know that the wing, tail and fuselage were from the B-29 Superfortress, with an extra fuselage section grafted on…and I’m not looking to completely scratchbuild this sucker…
I’m trying to make one for his desk…and if memory serves, 1/72 scale for either one is PRETTY BIG. Any help is appreciated [:D]
