Is the MiniHobbyModels 1/700 scale CV-6 USS Enterprise kit any good?
No it is not. It is a pirated clone of the Tamiya Hornet/Enterprise kit, down to the three dots of plastic which represent the 20mm gun base and sheild. The plastic is soft. The details are soft. The finely engraved lines on the original Tamiya offering are yawning canyons on the MHM kit. The channels are so deep on the flight deck that no airplane could successfully land. The MHM kit is set up to be motorized, but the full hull is completely wrong in shape. The only good thing about this kit, and its sister the Hornet, is the pricetag. Even with that it is not significantly cheaper than the Tamiya original kit.
How much is your time worth? How much time will you have to spend bringing the kit up to the standards of the original? Caveat emptor.
Get the Tamiya, or perhaps you should look into the Trumpeter 1:700 scale Hornet intead. It is a much better kit.

Ed hit this kit on the head. I think he might have been too kind. This kit is a real POJ. I ordered the Hornet kit because I wanted an early flight deck and wanted to see the “full hull” portion of the kit. That was clearly a waste of $10.00 US. When I opened the “Hornet” box what did I see, the “Enterprise” kit looking back at me. Then I noticed the small print on the box. “Actual model may vary from box art”.
NO!! It is not worth buying, unless you want to build it, then float it in a pond and shoot at it with a BB gun.
I don’t know why Trumpeter didn’t release an Enterprise. They did quite a few of the Essex class in 1/700 and both the Lexington and Saratoga. Why only the Hornet and not the Enterprise or Yorktown?
maybe they figure when releasing the same class ships 1-2 is enough because people will convert them themselves
which is kinda the point i brought out on other posts they could make a basic (sort of generic if you will) model of each class of ship fresh as it appeared on it’s madien voyage because the shape of the ships basic structure don’t change then make mini kits of only p/e and ship specific sprue( or two)
