Military Typestyles

Hi all,

I’m intending to make up some custom serials and codes for a forthcoming project but I’m having trouble matching the USAF typestyles in my computer. “Diamond SF” is close to the block serial numbers typestyle in use at the end of WWII, but the 2 is wrong… Is there anyplace I can download the actual fonts? Does anybody know what they’re called???

Cheers,

TB379

This might help…

Here are the only USAAF/USAF fonts I’ve come across…

USAAF Stencil

Amarillo USAF

Fade to Black…

Here is a great site for free font downloads:

Simmers Paint Shop

I downloaded both of the fonts Steve mentions and then some! [tup]

From what I know the style you would is consider’d “gothic”. Scenic railways makes dry transfer rub on decals and they have them listed as gothic style for the font. I wanted to go that route to make up my own serial #'s for B-17’s but they didnt have them in the right size, but the style was correct when compared to existing decals.

Hi guys,

I’m overwhelmed! Thanks heaps! I’ll go check out the links and let you know what I come up with.

Let me know if you find any dry transfers big enough for a 1/48 B-17! Serials and individual aircraft letters

Hi all,

Blown away! I’ve already got what I need! I went to Hans’s link and in minutes had the free download of the WWII serial and stencil styles that exactly match my reference photos. I’ll go to the others and collect anything else going too!

B-17 Guy – using this typestyle it would be simplicity itself to make the decals you need by printing them through a laser on clear decal film (Experts’ Choice laser/clear is the one I have and it’s worked perfectly for me, unlike their inkjet/white paper which has been a royal pain in the rear).

Yup, grabbed some more, Daywalker – the Kyrillish set might come in handy given that Zvezda released their Il-86 airliner with “Aeroflot” in English characters, when Russian characters would have been far more appropriate, and what the eye expects to see…

This should be plain sailing – thanks, guys!
