The Mig 21 is probaly in my opinion THE BEST MIG. Academy makes a model of these, but im wonderin on a resin cockpit detail set. Which one is the BEST for the Mig-21?
Hey dadfad
I remember KMC doing an interior as well as a conversion(I think its a “MF” variant or somin on that order. Haven’t checked in a while[:(]) but they are no longer produced.
You may want to check w/ either of the following mfgs, Aires
Verlinden, Cutting Edge, Paragon(sp) or Blackbox.
The last one I’m not too sure on if they did any aftermarket updates?
Cutting Edge probably will be your best bet on finding aftermarket items. Here are a few web sites.

Dadfad,
I will be in a position latere in the week to do a photo walkround of the MiG21. Any use to you.

NeOmega has the detailing sets for Academy’s MiG 21’s. Check them out! The web site is www.neomega-resin.com
I have to say, the Mig-21MF was a nice plane, but very little can compare to the Mig-29. It may looka little sideways with the oversized intakes, but the performance is absolutley phenominal.
BTW, Verlinden makes a nice set for the Mig-21. You should check it out.
Good luck on the build!

I myself grew up in Eastern Europe so I have an affinity for anything Russian that flies or crawls and espesially for the Mig-21s. My dad told me a story when I was a kid of a Mig pilot who had to eject but he was above the clouds and could not see the ground. If the pilot ejected the plane would have crashed on the factory below where my father was workning. My dad said the they all heard the loud noise above their heads and saw the plane coming out of the clouds crashing in the near field killing the pilot who steered his plane to the last minute to avoid ground casualties.
In grade school, my classmate’s father was a pilot who had died in a Mig-21and he always had model planes in his house, in contrast to my house where my parents couldn’t afford spending money on toys like that. I often wondered if his father was the one that crashed his plane to save my father. I never asked him but I thought that it might have been my friend’s dad.
When I went back this summer to visit my parents, I brought them an Academy Mig-21MF. My dad thought that it was a Mig-28, sinse had a large 28 number on the side. I guess he is not a modeller.
I can’t get wormed up to the Mig-29, it looks like a misshaped Su-27 to me.

Keep your foot off the throttle.
I finally got to see a real live Mig-21 in the flesh (er… aluminum) this past December at the Smitsonian Air & Space Museum’s Garber Restoration Facility. They were working on it; getting it ready for display at the new Udvar-Hazey center at Dulles Airport.
The wings were off and I was struck by how small they are compared to the rest of the plane – at first I thought I was looking at the horizontal tail pieces. If I get a chance tonight I’ll scan one of the pictures I have and post it here.
With the small, delta-shaped wings and pointy fuselage, I can see that the plane was a fast one, but how maneuverable was it? Does anyone know anything more about them?
Regards,
-Drew
Isnt the Flanker supposed to be the one to look like a misshapen MiG-29? LOL. I have to admit the Su-27 looks real sexy though.
About the topic, I looked at the Neomega site. the cockpit sets looks good. I wonder where I can get a cockpit conversion set to MiG-21bis because the Academy kit is not really an “MF” but a “bis.”
at 72 ft the Sukhoi SU27 is way bigger than the MiG 29, for me the MiG 31 is the just so ‘frighteningly gorgeous’ it gets my vote[:p]
Trumpeter makes some really nice versions at a seemgly affordable price. check it out.
