Looking for any help on converting a 1/32 MiG 15 [Korea] to a MiG 17 [Vietnam]. thanks.
That would involve a tremendous amount of scratch building and modifications. The Mig-17 has a longer fuselage with a different profile, the wings are longer and have a higher sweep angle, the tail is shaped differently, the nose is shaped differently, etc. At first glance, they look quite similar, but in actuality, are quite different. There are numerous web sites with diagrams and photos.

With that in mind, maybe have a look at Trumpeters 1/32nd MIG 17 kit
Was surprised when I looked at Hannants in the UK’s Web Site how cheap it was…Probably means that it is one of their older kits & may require some “plastic surgery”. Would probably be a better starting point than a MIG 15 though.
Have to admit, there is something about how the MIG 15/ 17/ 19’s look that is starting to tempt me into having a go at one.
You can’t get there from here. The MIG-15 wing sweep was 35 degrees with the horizontal tail being swept 40 degrees. The MIG-17 had a leading edge sweep of 49 degrees and the outboard sweep of 45.5 degrees. The wing was much thinner than the MIG-15 wing, had rounded wing tips and three wing fences on each wing. The fuselage was almost four feet longer with a larger tail surface. The aft section had a different shape due to a bigger engine. Main gear doors and main gear were different.
maybe these will help maybe not. the detail may not be there at these angles to be of much help.

I’m with you there, David. After a summertime visito to the Air and Space museum where I saw a Mig-15 and an F-86 Sabre side by side, I’m tempted to build them both.
Thanks guys. I dont suppose they were still using the MiG15 in Vietnam??? I have Tamiya’s 1/32 Phantom II F-4J and I was kinda thinking about doing them both as vietnam. MiG and MiG Killer
Yes, the VPAF did operate some Mig 15s early in the war, especially the two seat trainer version. The first cadre of Mig pilots were trained on Mig 15s in China. Most of them were destroyed in bombing raids or operational accidents and were eventually replaced by the Mig-17, 19 and 21. There were a few at Phuc Yen and Kein An airfields. I think the construction at Kep and Yen Bai was completed after the transition, so probably none were at those two fields. All other airfields were either too small to accomodate jets or were completed much later in the war.

The Mig-17 was designed to improve the flight charactritis found lacking in the Mig-15
