Well I couldn’t resist the temptation when I saw three 1/72 scale USSR Mig’s on offer at a discount toy store for $2 each . The kits were obviously made in china so the quality isn’t as good as Hasegawa , Italeri , Revell etc ; But they look like they will go together reasonably well anyway. Unfortunatly the painting instructions aren’t in English so i’m not sure of the right color scheme . Looking through Hasegawa 2000 catalogue the Mig -25 and 31 appear to be Aircraft gray overall with a green nose cone and the Mig-29 gray / green camouflage . I prefer to airbrush with Gunze Sangyo acrylics ; so if anyone could suggest paint color numbers i would greatly appreciate it .
Regards JD
I would just do a search on those particular aircraft. Migs in particular were never confined to one standard paint scheme, and there are many examples out there of various camo schemes. The Mig 25 was a high-altitude interceptor, and had an overall light gray scheme, however another common scheme was a dark green and tan wave-like pattern. The Mig 31 was again mostly to be found in overall gray. THe mig29 has many differing colour schemes. I’m sure someone else here can give you a much better and more detailed answer.
I’ve never used Gunze, nor do I know enough about them to comment on colour numbers.
Hi JD,
I’m presently working on Academy’s 1/48 MiG 29 UB. The only paints that I found that are close are MOdel Master (their FULCRUM line) #2133 RUSSIAN FULCRUM GRAY, # 2134 FULCRUM GRAY/GREEN. Obviously they’re not acrylics, but they spray really well. If you surf the net you can find a bunch of sites for the Mig 29 FULCRUM. Squadron 2000 carries the above paints.
Hope this helps.
