MIG-21 internal colors

Modelers, I’m starting to do research on building an Iraqi MIG-21 MF. I’m strying to dertermine the colors of avionics bays, wheel bays and airbrake wells.

I’ve decided that these aircraft used a grey/blue for internal structures such as the avionics bays. I’ve somewhat planned to go with that.

I’ve seen airbrakes that were either yellow or natural. However, in both cases, the aircraft itself was bare metal. Mine will be camoed.

With the wheel wells, I’ve seen either a grey color (similar and possibly identical to the grey/blue used for the avionics bays) or natural metal. Again however, these were on bare metal aircraft.

I’ve found lots of pictures, but all the good photos that show these items close-up are of bare metal aircraft.

Anyone have any addtional info or theory as to how these things were painted?

Thanks.

G’day There,
I have photos of an ex-Polish 21 painted in Indian AF colours that I will look for and let you know. In the interim uou coucl go to fighterworld.com.au and ask them direct.
Dai

Thanks Dai. Let me know what you find. I’ll also check out fighterworld. That’s a new one to me!

Thanks again!!

Dai, you say I can email these guys and they will answer these questions? I’ve found that most places like this won’t take the time to do that. Have you had experience with these guys? I don’t want to look like an idiot. [:D]

What happened to the lovely turquoise color? Is this only used in the cockpit? I assumed that it was used through out the aircraft. Am I the only person to find this color nauseating? I would hate to fly through some violent ACMs’ with my cockpit painted that color!!

Yea, only the cockpit. And yes…very nauseating!!

Nauseting color in a cockpit…Mind you it is supposed to be a relaxing color…
They used to paint hospital wards in the same bluish color…!!!
Which Humbrol, Xtracolor etc is this by the way?..

The Hungarian one I had the most contact with, when it was unloaded from the boat, had the turquoise-gray interior and wheel wells and that funky green intake spike. How does one duplicate that color, by the way. Green, not the turquoise. It used to come in Xtracolor, I believe. The turquoise, I mean, not the green. Make sense? I thought not.
