This is the ancient Hasegawa Mig-21 Fishbed C in 1/72 scale. In real life, the Fishbed Cs made for Soviet Frontal Aviation and the Warsaw Pact nations were called F-13. Those intended for export to other than WP nations were called F-12 and had the SRO-2 IFF (Odd Rods) and other sensitive items deleted. F-12 number 312 belonged to the Egyptian Air Force in the early 1960s. I added the dipole radar altimeter antennas under the wingtips, the landing lights just behind the main gear wells, the doppler navigation antenna cover just behind the nose gear well, drilled out the holes in the speed brake and repositioned the dorsal VHF radio antenna. The kit went together very well with only one misalignment in the fuselage just behind the cockpit. I highlighted the panel lines and control surface edges as well as added smudges around the airframe with a graphite drafting pen.
I had four objectives with this buld:
- Complete a model for the Foreign Air Force Migs Group Build.
- Build a simple model Out Of The Box with no AM parts
- Finish the model without using an air brush
- Experiment with a new idea for natural metal finish.
Anyway, on to the pictures. Darwin, O.F. [alien]

Very nice Darwin ! That’s a mean lookin’ Mig.
Sounds like you put a ton of work into it - those detail photos of the cockpit in your other post were awesome too. Can you see the interior detail with her all assembled ?
Chris
Awsome build Darwin,
Looks like many hours went into this. Share your talent with no air brush.

Thats a cracking little Fishbed - excellent work!
I loved this plane ever since it would come screaming in guns blazing in Falcon on my Atari computer.
That’s my favorite variety of MiG-21! Your model looks great. Thanks for sharing the photos.
Regards,

ALL Thanks for the comments about my Mig.
Bossman The detailed cockpit I posted a few days ago is for a different Mig-21. It goes in the Fujimi MF or Fishbed J model that is halfway throught he paint shop. The canopy will be open, (sideways hinge), and the pit will be fairly visible. You just have to look at it from different angles to see it all.
Dragonfly & Michael John I didn’t use an airbrush on this model, but I did use aerosol rattle cans. There are four coats on it. (1) primer (2) chrome (3) clear gloss, then (4) clear flat over everthing after the decals. My shop is in the basement where it is pretty chilly and the paint gets thick and gooey. I set each can in a small pan of WARM water, not HOT for about 15 minutes to get the paint warm enough to flow evenly.
Aerosol spray cans are very limited in color choice and of course any intricate patterns would have to carefully masked in a stand off manner. There is an automotive paint supply store about 15 miles away that will custom blend colors or take your paint and put it in an aerosol can for you. This would eliminate the lack of color choice problem as well as having enamels and laquers available.
