help! i am a novice modeller. My aircraft paint has been ruined by microsol, and the areas where the solutions flowed into are all stained with ugly marks. I also noticed that airbrushed paint sometimes does not seem to produce an even finish, specifically Tamiya Acrylic Flat Black… can any kind soul offer advice and tips? thanks a million…
Superviper88,
Microsol and Microset should only be applied to the immediate area of the decal. If you have had it run all over the model, you are using too much! It is important to make sure that you use it on a surface which has had a coat of varnish on it first to protect the paint, then apply only a drop brushed onto the area where the decal goes, apply the decal and then put a drop of the other solution on the top of the decal. Then, leave it alone till the decal sets.
The paint problem is probably due to the fact that it has not been stirred enough or thinned enough before you airbrushed it. Matt paint has the matt pigments in it, and if the paint is to be used, it must be stirred thoroughly to get the pigments evenly throughout the paint. Then put some into the airbrush bottle or cup and thin it before spraying. If you do not stir the paint, then some of the finish will look matt and some will have a glossy look.
Hope these comments help the problem.
You are using way to much setting solution when you say it runs. Only apply where the decal is. If your paint was acrylic, Microsol is an alcohol base & can react with the paint. One reason why I only use enamels. In any case you should have a gloss top coat before applying decals. Future is very popular for this purpose, but there are several other products that can serve as well.

wow. okay… thanks for all your help [:D]
I have been using acrylics with sol/set for nearly 20 years with no problem.
when yoy apply the gloss finish, leave it cure for a day and you should have no problems.(Tamiya, Gunze and Vallejo)
I have also tries them both with alclad with no problems.
