Hey guys, I’m getting ready to decal my P-47 and I’m wondering about Micro Sol/set. I have sol, and i’ve read the directions. However, I’m too poor/cheap to buy micro set. I’ve heard White Vinegar works. Is there any truth to this and how do I use it? THanks.
Hello.
The microsol/set system is a wonderfull thing. As far as viniger…im not sure but I have heard that it will work, after all the stuff smells like viniger. But just to be safe I would go ahead and buy the bottle of micro set, It should last quite a while as you dont use a whole lot of it at one time, providing you dont spill it. Its east to do trust me. As far as using the stuff, just follow the directions on the bottle you cant go wrong.
Brian.
I agree with Brian. Granted it’s expensive (what in today’s world isn’t?) but unless you’re applying one heck of a lot of decals, it should last you a minimum of a year or two.

this should help
Thanks goonx. That’s a great site. This is a question that I would have had to ask in a few weeks.
Hope all goes well RadMax8.[;)]
My LHS only stocks Micro Set. Should I look around for Sol? Is it better? Set seems to work pretty slowly and not make the decals conform as well as I had hoped. It works a lot better than nothing and you can tell by my models when I started to use it, but it seems to take a long time to get good results.
Microsol is just a little more aggressive… ok a lot more aggressive… it still takes awhile for the decal to sit down pretty and dry… (not too long about 20 min or so) I only use Microsol for decals on compound curves (goes several directions at once) and sometimes there are unruly decals that either because they are thick, or are expected to lay down over a large protuberance in the fuselage, don’t want to sit… Microsol forces them into submission. If you think you want it, I think both www.squadron.com and www.greatmodels.com stock it.
If you get the microsol don’t even think about touching the decal until dry… voice of experience [;)] Most everything I have come across sits down with several applications of Microset.
I have got both set and sol. I also think that set is plain vinegar, I have tried vinegar and it works just as wel. Try adding some to the water in which you soak the decals!
Sol is something different, I don’t know a replacement for that. I find it a very good product. But not al decals are the same, some work better with set, some with sol.
