I hope this hasn’t been asked before, but I’m sure it has…
I have about 18 28mm plastic horse with medieval barding and armor and some of the decals are lifting off… I think it’s a combination of poor application on my part and leaving them out in the car on a night of freeving temps.
Regardless, I’m hoping that I can use Micro Sol/Set to salvage the application…
Can I apply Micro Sol/Set after the fact to try and salvage a decal that is peeling off?
I’ve never used either product before, but I bought some at lunch today and would like a few tips on how and when to properly use it.
These are used to soften decals during the application process. They might sofeten them again, but won’t help them adhere.
Try this. Apply a little to begin with, either product. Hopefully, the deacls willbecome soft. Next, apply some thinned white glue to the area where the decal will make contact and carefully smooth them down.
Hopefully, as the glue dries, it will hold thedecal in place.
When dry, apply a layer of your favorite clear flat.
You might be able to use Future instead of glue with that technique as well.
I’ve used a very, very light dab of super glue applied with a toothpick. However, I think I’ll try Future next time.
I wouldn’t use Microsol, at least not initially. It might make the decal curl up or disintegrate. Maybe after you tacked it down with glue or Future you could use some to get it to flatten down.
BUT… Skip the using any type glue except white glue and Future ONLY! I have sucessfully used Future thinned 50/50 with water as a decal setting agent with remarkable results. You can mix a bit of white glue and Future together to add more adhesion strength. Make sure to press decals in place with a piece of damp cloth and brush out any trapped air from under decals.
