Micro-flat

Hello everyone;

Anybody ever shot this stuff? I’m trying to tone down the Future gloss on my Devastator and it’s not working too well. Do I apply in several light coats or can I use fewer heavier ones. Tried a heavy coat but didn’t wick away the excess in a couple of spots. The result was a pool of flat that dried and spider-webbed and cracked. Any advice on using this sister product of Micro-Sol , -Set?

Thanks;

I’ve seen it at my lhs but never used it. I’ve had good luck with Humbrol matt clear and Tamiya flat base mixed with Future about 4 Future to 1flat base. The Humbrol has been my favorite so far. I’ve heard good stuff about Polly Scale clear flat, but haven’t been able to put my hands on any yet. Good luck with your flat and keep us posted.

I used to use Micro Flat and Micro Gloss but have not used it in several years because all the models that I used them on tended to yellow after several years on the shelf. Now I use Testor’s Dull Coat or Future (although if I want a really dull finish I use Walthers DDV). And yes, your’e better off spraying on several thin coats rather than one thick coat with any paint.

Thanks Madda and Quincy.

Also;
Will the spray can of Model Master Lacquer Lusterless(flat) that I have harm the acrylic finish of either the Future or the Micro-flat? …or decals?
Steve

Well I use Testors Dullcote over acrylics all the time. The only time I’ve had issues is if I didn’t let the acrylic finish cure for at least a day.

Yep, you’d want to make sure your acrylic has cured and use light mist coats of the laquer dullcote. Since you’re dealing with rattlecans, pull back and move quickly to get light coats. Build up slowly and you should be just fine.

Madda and Crockett;

Thank you for invaluable info. After a couple of years, I’m still an amateur. I’ve now got several different types of enamel, acrylic and lacquer finishes. Now just trying to find out what works the best whether out of a rattle can or through an airbrush.

Thanks again,
Steve

IMHO, the best flat, semi and Gloss finishes are made by Pollyscale. They are acrylic and excellent to work with.
