looking to make a dio with a tripod mounted mg42 but haven’t been able to find any ref pics as to how these guns were set up used and bunkered. hoping some people could shed some light with info or pics. thanks in advance

Here are a few. It was bunkered and configured how ever it would work best for the situation. Below the photos I included a website that has hundreds of ww2 pics from third reich archives. It will be a matter of searching through that data base and finding more info.
Also a simple search of mg42 on what ever search engine you are using will give you thousands of hits that will have p[lenty of info you might be looking for, including places to order the real thing if you so wish. Having had an opportunity to fire one of these guns, I can see why it is so impressive and terrifying at the same time. Good luck.

Dragon has released an Mg42 kit with 4 figures last year. Should be great for your planned dio.
Here’s another pic; I know it is a MG34, but they most likely used MG42’s in a similar way.

THey also show an MG42 on Saving Private Ryan. The part where they take the radar station.

The dragon kit is awesome!
I just finished it on a 7" round base behind some sandbags and rocks.
I will post pics tomorrow after a little touch-up work.
Highly recommended kit!!
Nice pics, renarts, especially the first one. What’s it scale?.
This is the kit that Dwight and Captain Caveman mentioned, :

nice pictures renart. I like the 1st one
is it a reneactment group?
The first is a pic of a reenactors. The others are period pics of crews.
I have a bunch of friends that belong to a german unit and they do Heer and SS. One of them has a BMW with side car and has a mg42 mounted on the side car. It is fully operational and I’m fortunate to have been able to fire it along with several other weapons. Awesome piece of fire power does not begin to describe the potential of this weapon.
It’s nice to have access to their equipment and be able to look closely at uniforms, weapons and to see them in action to see how this equipment is all handled.
Mike
now how come i cant be lucky enough to have friends like that??? lol can u post any helpful pics on ss uniforms with oakleave or peapatterns??? or spliter cammo? or any detail shots of the gear??? that would be so greatly appreciated. U dont have to, its just a request. again ur real lucky. If u mix that dragon kit with the tamiya one, u can get some pretty kool looking combos. I ought to try that.
Yikes… I wouldn’t want to be the one holding the support legs of the MG with the muzzle only a few inches from his head…
As for the potential? Look at its offspring, the M-60. Its basically the same.
there is a billion ideas with mg42s on medal of honor, for the computer, belive me
