Hi all,
I am currently building Airfix’s 1/48 109 in its tropical configuration.
The one thing I am not certain on is where the desert yellow meets the hellblau (not official references but you should know what I mean!) half way down the fuselage, is this line where they meet, solid (I.E. should it be masked) or was it more or less straight but not perfect (I.E. could be airbrushed freehand)?
Thanks in advance!
Harry
Based on photographs, it appears very straight & uniform on most aircraft, so I mask mine. If you’re really good with an AB, you could do it freehand.
Regards, Rick
Thanks Rick.
Looks like I’m off to buy another roll of Tamiya tape!
The only reason I ask is that in the Hyperscale galleries there are a few examples of BF-109’s in tropical camo and some are dead straight where they meet, some are straight but slighly hazy at the join (Airbrushed) and some are squiggly lines like you would expect to see on a european theatre 109.
I did’nt know what to think.
Thanks again!
I aint nearly as good at this as Blackwolf… but then hes blackwolf[;)]
This is a profile of a 109f trop for you

Seriously, thanks for the help, you guys are great.
It appears that there is no real hard and fast rule on the demarcation of the camouflage as the profile behind +2 has an uneven edge and +2 itself is nice and straight.
I’ll post some pics when I’m done as this is my 2nd 1/48 scale plane after moving from being a dedicated 1/72 modeller, and the first model where the pre-shading tecnique has really come into its own.
Thanks for going to all that trouble to help me! [:)]
