Memorial Day Sightings

Anyone see anything fly over today?

I was in luck that I got up when I did… I got up, went into the bathroom to do my business, and heard an odd aircraft outside, so I looked outside, and sure enough, two A-10s flew by… (Well, couldn’t tell for sure, but they deffinatly looked like A-10s… The way the canopy and tail are… )

ANYWAY… I wish they’d fly over again… But that was deffinatly a nice wake up this morning!

Didn’t even notice if they were carrying any bombs, or anything… probably weren’t, the gun is probably plenty if they needed to use it… (Course, doubt they need to use it anyway… They can just look pretty flying up there lol )

I can mark off seeing an A-10 fly, now… heh, it’s one of my fav birds, as well

Yes - Oddly enuf - we did have a flyover today. A vee of four F-16’s.

First time I’ve ever seen F-16’s fly over this area. I thought that I had missed the announcement of a local airshow, so I got on the internet and couldn’t find anything that was scheduled for Western New York today.

First thing I did after seeing them was asking my mom if there was any airshows (never seems to be any around here… Wish there was… )

And she’s just like “There’s parades” and I’m like “oh, yeah…” heh, still wish it was an airshow… Only one I ever went to, I don’t remember it -__-

At about 11:15 PST my wife and I were doing some pruning on the side of the house and I heard a jet in the distant which is common here since we are in the flight path of Oakland airport and 737’s fly over about every 5 minutes.
The sound got a little louder though and I recognized it as a military engine.
Just then I saw it as two F-16’s from the ANG I believe did a flyby almost directly over the house. [tup]
Very cool! [8D]

As we were holding our annual Memorial Day Ceremony just as we got to the point where we were remembering the MIA/POW’s an f-16 did a low and slow fly by. Could it be because the base commander was in attendance? Appropriate action!. Thanks.

Richard

A T-28 buzzed the beach yesterday, but it’s a local aircraft and does this often.
I really like the sound of a round engine!

Just earlier today I hear this low engine noise that really had a good rumble to it…and I was thinking “Thats no Cessena or Beachcraft!”

I went to have a look and DANG!! Two P-47’s and one P-51 in tight formation!

You don’t see that every day! [:D]

there are times i wish i lived closer to civilization. to see some of these a/c in flight would be awesome.

There was an Airshow at Willow Run Airport about 20 miles from my home. I couldn’t attend, but happened to be out in my yard when a B-17 flew over at about 2000 feet. A few minutes later two P-51D’s came over flying in close formation and at a much lower altitude. Sweet.

Hey Joe!

Your not missing much …It’s a big zoo, over crowded with Jerks, yuppies and soccer moms in minivans and SUV’s!
I would feel safer in a B-17 over Berlin on a daylight run than driving around here any day!

Nope! you stay right where you are pal! …When I move outta here the only thing I will miss is the Hobby Shops!

RJK…Now that WAS cool!

MMmmm lez see here. Between Saturday and Sunday there were a few A-10s, 16s and a P-3. MAN I almost forgot, a few UH-60s that US Customs is using to patrol our borders with. Gotta love my job[B)][;)]
Hey Bossman,
Most likely those 16s you saw were probably from Syracuse. In the last week or so I have seen them w/ our tankers over lake Ontario.
Flaps up, Mike

What about the annual appearance of the Blue Angels Papa?

Are you planning on attending the opening of the new wing at the MOF? I’ll be there!

B-17G and B-24J, 3 P-51’s in formation P-38J low and hot, heard him coming. 2 B-25j and I think but not sure a P-47 but she was at attitude.

Wow, WW2 planes… Lucky people you are :stuck_out_tongue: (Even if it was just an air show… )

I do wonder what else was flying around where I was yesterday, though… Never got to go to any parades or anything…

I want to see it but I will need to wait a week or two…its going to be cool though![8D]

Butz,

Yeah - I figured they were from the National Guard Unit in Syracuse. (They were flying west)

The only other times that I’ve seen them in the air - I’ve been away from my home. I saw them at the Geneseo Air Show - and I kinda saw 2 of them (I saw their lights) dogfighting at night when I was camping in the Adirondacks. That was pretty wild !

Had a P-47 flyby Monday, I live on a private airstrip and we get buzzed quite often, lots of WWII warbirds around here.

The first Thursday of the month from 5PM - 9 PM the MOF admission is free. Me and a buddy are gonna check it out 7/1. But I’ll be there Sunday too. Just gotta see that 38 and 109. [:D]

If you’ve never made it down to Olympia for the annual Gathering of Warbirds it is worth the drive. Collings Foundation was there last year and they’ll be there this yr too. Here is a link for ya.

We usually have a group of 2-3 A-10s fly over every day over our house-- they must have maneuvers through the valleys. Also heard on the news that coming this week, “Sentimental Journey” will be stopping at the Albany International Airport…I’ve been through her before, but I can’t resist going to see her again [;)]…only the last time I saw her, she was with that He-111 that crashed not so long ago [:(]
