I know some of you doubtless play the boardgame and paint up the little board pieces… BUT… have any of you played the Mech games for PC or XBox?
I haven’t found any Mechwarrior kits, so I was considering scratchbuilding a mech based of computer game scale & dimensions.
I’m curious if anyone here has ever tried this before, or if there would be interest in tooling any Mech kits in a decent armor scale like 1/35? 1/24 would probably be a tad large for 50-100 ton mechs I’m guessing…
There are kits available for Vulture, Madcat(Timberwolf), and the Atlas from different sources, but they are super expensive. I built a Gunslinger using the chassis of an ATST as a base, and it turned out fairly well, but it was a lot of work.
They (the holding companies) are making a huge mistake by not allowing Revell/Monogram to make models of these battlemechs…I am not sure where FASA/Mattel is coming from with their decision to not market the mechs…seems silly to me!
WizKids holds the rights to BattleTech and MechWarrior. But True These companies should allow the major kit manufatures to tool kits of those impressive BattleMechs.
I only wish there was a decent size uziel kit, that’s the one I really love.I keep saying one of these days I’m going to take out my lost in space movie robot and bash him into one but I lack the time, maybe when I finish my Boba Fett armor.
Well I’m pretty avid in 3D Studio MAX 6, so I’m going to start importing Mechwarrior game models from Mech 4 and Mech 2 if I can extract them, and I’ll start printing up scale & reference sheets so that I and anyone else who wants to can begin scratchbuilding some nice mechs, since it seems the Dunces of the Coast don’t want to utilize perhaps the most lucrative brand they own.
I’m thinking 1/35th scale would be the best to reference the models in, what do you guys think?
I’ve played all thye Mechwarrior games up to 4 and was p-laying it to but life got in the way and i can’t find my cd’s now but that’s another story. I hunted and pecked and scrounged all over looking for some drawings to make mechwarriors from and found a couple of free paper kits from a guy in South Korea. The files are on my other computer right now but I’ve wanted to do some scratch built Mechs for a long time. I want to do a 1/35/32 scale Fafnir, Shadowhawk, Avatar and some of the others but alas no info out there good enough to start with. I’d personally love to get some of your plans. 1/35 scale could be a touch big but that or 1/32 would be the scale where you could get the most as far as accessories to go with them and kitbashing parts too. I’d sure like to see what you come up with, they’d be great. Also following the lead of some of the resin manufactures you could like umm rename them and possibly sell a few sets to pay yourself back for your time and effort, I’ve seen I don’t know how many wolverine, batman and other assorted somic book characters renamed and sold to avoid licencing fees it looks like.
I have 1/35th Timberwolf (madcat) schematics that were drawn up for me…but I took a look at the amount of scratching, and bailed…you are more than welcome to them!
I’m having a helluva time extracting the 3D models from Mech 4, I’m going to give Mech 3 a try later…
I figure if anything is gonna be hard to build, the Uziel will be, it’s torso is all ovoids and the arms and legs are coke-bottle cylinders. Fun fun fun…
How are you going about with this? I thought the MW4 models were embedded in the .EXE file. So far I haven’t found an extractor for them. The MechLab in the game is a pain as well because it doesn’t let you just scroll through the mechs.
no cold showers for me. due to the fact that I went in the living room afterwards and a drew barrymore movie was one. Now that is a girl that can be REALLY hot in the right light…and that wasn’t the right light…SO! all was good.
