I know this is more of a historical question but an idea came to mind for a diorama.
So does anyone know whether these two WWII jets ever faced each other in combat for the first jet vs jet combat? I know that Meteors were used against the V-1 flying bombs, but did they ever tangle with the -262’s? If so, what were the results?
They never met in combat and the 262 would most likely have been the victor in the event that it had ever happened.
Me-262 of course, the meteor would of been out classed in every area.
The first all jet combat took place in Korea, with MIG-15’s and F-80’s. No damage was done to either side. The first jet to jet kill was made by a F-80 over a MIG-15.

The F-80 was outclassed by the MiG-15 yet it shot it down. Remember what Yeager said, “It’s the man, not the machine.” Also, during WW2 there was a Finish ace who scored most of his kills while flying the Brewster Buffalo. It might be a bit premature to say that the -262 would have been the victor against the Meteor. Heck I agree that the 262 may have had a better performance envelope but I can’t say that the 262 would have been the victor. Even Mustangs shot down the 262.

Most all the 262’s shot down by allied fighters were shot down while on thier final approach. The Brit’s had more skilled pilots so even though 262’s performance was better I think the skill of the meteor pilots would have made up for the differances.
The oddest things happen when you put an exceptional pilot in an under achiever aircraft…So who knows what would have happened. I like both of the AC I just think the ME262 wins in the appearance dept…looks a lil more streamlined…but this topic wasnt about looks LOL sorry![#offtopic]
It would be a good match remember the AVG’s flying P-40’s to the better Oscar’s & Zeke’s and the Ole Warhawks came through, that was the pilots with an outdated plane I’d think the fight would have been a good one but the Meteor might of had a bloody nose as with the 262

the early Meteors often used a ‘wing flip’ technique with the V1 's due to jammed guns so perhaps they were fortunate not to have met the 262 -maybe the DH Vampire would have had a better chance in a 'dogfight ’ with the 262 ? after six years of WW2 i dont think the allies were too keen to wait and find out !
I read that Spits also used the wing-flip method, but I read that this was used only in order for the attacking aircraft to escape the huge explosion and debris field.
They could never have met unless one of them had been towed to the confrontation. Worth noting that the RAAF shot down a number of Migs in Korea with Meteors.
Actually, the RAAF pilots were pretty sore when their government replaced their F-51D’s with Meteors instead of F-86’s. The RAAF Meteors were given escort duties for B-29’s and F-84’s, but after a few very one-sided engagements they were relegated to ground attack duties. They were deemed to be totally outclassed by the MIG-15’s. DOn’t get me wrong, the RAAF pilots put in a good effort but the final tally was something like 5 MIG-15’s downed for 17 Meteors lost in air-air combat.
The first Meteors had poor performance even outclassed by many piston engined planes. The engine nacelle produced excessive drag which was rectified in later marks. The Meteors that flew in Korea had slightly better performance than the Me-262’s that flew in WWII.
the meteor was a more rugged aircraft and would have probably taken more hits than a 262 to bring it down, also the 262’s engines only had a fatigue life of 25hrs running time so the meatbox would have probably taken the 262 out with a straffing run whilst it was having an engine swap [:D]. Greg
