Well, here it is. I promised Pixilater I would show him the kit when it was done…that was a few months ago, but I finally got it done. It is the 1/48 DML Me-262A-1a/U-4 and what a pain it was getting things to fit. The detail on the kit is great though. This particular version carried the 50mm cannon. I certainly wouldn’t want to have been on the wrong end of that gun.
I like the paint job! It looks really good around the canopy. Being rather new to the modeling scene, I have found on the model I just finished, the canopy was the most difficult to paint.
last year, from september to december, i finished 7 me 262’s, of which 2 were italeri and 1 was dragon. now i only have 2 cause im making the hasegawa 1/32 into a 2 seater, something hard because its 4 feet longer.
Great job, caine ! You did very well with the seams on the nacelle/ wing & wingroot. How tough a time did you have on the area where the bottom wing fits to the lower fuselage? That’s always the hardest part for me with this kit. Did you put your weights in the nacelles?
I like it !
Yes the bottom of the fuselage at the wing roots was the hardest fit. I had several layers of superglue added to smooth everything out. Unfortuntely I never notice anything in the instruction with regards to weight and I figured with all that plasitc for the cannon in the nose, that it would sit fine on its own. So, I have a tail heavy model…ooops. Plus I didn’t get a good alignment of the nose gear. You can’t see it very well in the photos, but the nose strut sticks off a good 5-10 deg from center. The cockpit tub didn’t quite fit in properly either, but it is hard to notice.
The engine nacelles took a little work, but nothing too bad. The worst was when I accidentally knocked out both the engine intake nozels during painting. I had to do some fancy glue work to get them back in place. I used the bendy part of a bendy straw to grip the nozel and then used CA to fix them back in place.
