Hi all, I think this is my tenth (maybe ninth) model completed. I must say, building a Tamiya kit is a pleasure. It’s a 1/48th. I built the bomb cart/jack myself. I know it is over-engineered, but it’s my first scratchbuild, and I only had one picture to go off of. Oh…and I couldn’t resist putting the rabbit in there to give the guy (my first figure) something to look at.
I know I made a million mistakes in this, but it was fun. If you see something that could be better, please only tell me if you can explain how to do it
QT: Great job on the Me262. How did you paint the camo? With airbrush? It looks great. The rabbit under the plane is a nice addition to the display. Thanks for sharing. I have this kit in my stash and will hopefully enjoy it as much as you did.
THAT LADDER IS NOT LUFTWAFFE STANDARD ISSUE!!! YOU HAVE COMMITTED A GREAT CRIME AGAINST MODELLING!
Nice 262, I like the rabbit, but, just my opinion, it would have looked cooler if it was white and black to make it stick out a little more. I like the open gun doors, no one ever seems to do that on the 262 anymore.
If you decide you want to “improve on perfection” try having the nose wheel turned to one side a bit and “weighting” the tires slightly.
If you want to go deeper, “tweek” the rear control surfaces as well, i,e, angle the elevator surfaces up as well as the rudder to one side (opposite the nose gear’s direction). I have seen more then one actual photo with them situated like that.
But that would be only if you felt like it.
I wish I could do a paint job as nice as you did [:)]
The rabbit is a nice touch. I like bits of whimsy in dioramas. It makes them more real.
Very, very good for an early effort. Better than I could do on my 100th. If you didn’t tell us, I would have thought the bomb cart was some sort of aftermarket item. It’s very well made.
Just one minor suggestion, and it is minor. The tires look a bit too black. Dark gray makes tires look a bit more realistic. The real tires may be black, but in daylight, they will look dark gray.
Very nice work on the Swalbe diorama. The Ketten… (whatchamacallit) does add a lot to the overall scene, as does the work stand, (official Lufftewaffe issue or “use what you got”}.
Ok, ok. I got it. Kettenkraftrad!!! Whaddo I win?!?! I actually bought the same kit about a week ago. Anything I need to look out for?? Great job yourself, especially the camo!
Thank you all for the compliments. They’re appreciated.
No, nothing to look out for. The kit fits beautifully, just be careful with the metal peice in the front. It fits right, but be careful to glue it to the fuselage half in exactly the right spot. I had it off by half a millimeter and then had that exact same half a millimeter gap near the nose…my mistake, not the kit’s.
Yes, the camo is done via airbrush. It was tedious using my double action Aztek with both hands to get the flow perfect, in my unheated basement which kept the paint from spraying right. Was awful
Oh, believe it or not, the wheels aren’t black. I used Acryl Engine Grey, though even it seems too dark.
Great Job! That fact that this is only your tenth model is a major bonus point. I also built the same kit and yes it does go together flawlessly. Almost to flawlessly. I like to build models, not just assemble them for Tamiya. Thats not to take away from the fact that youve done an awsome job with this diorama. What next on the drawing board.
