Me-262 A-2a "Too Little, Too Late"

Howdy to all,

Here is another build that I dusted off and before I put her in the case, I wanted to share them w/ you guys…

This is Tamiya’s Me-262 A-2a right OOB… Used non poruse surgical tape for the belts and did some simple weathering via a “black wash” & some pastels…

Shes in the markings of III./EJG2 which was a training unit before being passed onto JG7. Hence the over sprayed unit markings on the mid fuselage…

Later this 262 was captured on 6/23 of 45 and was repainted in many various markings and it is now on display at RAF Cosworth.

The Lt green over spray and ID bands were done by AB. Over all I am pleased w/ the build and I can not think of any fit issues nor hold ups… O except fore where the halfs met at the nose section, had to rescribe the circle panel as well as re do the riviets. Other than that she was straight forward…

The base was pretty cool as well… Used ol “Mother Nature” and static grass… Used balsa strips and cut them down to various lenghts… Pretty happy how it turned out…

Again thank you for looking and any comments welcomed!!

Mike

I like this one a lot! I had this kit, but sent it to my santa-ee for the SSGB. Zipmiester is working on it now! This looks like my kind of Luftwaffe scheme… EASY! HAHA

Of the three bases I’ve seen tonight from you, this one is my favorite. The wood planking really makes it. It’s nice to see that you are keeping yourself pretty busy! Wish i could get some modeling done[]

Hiya Max,

Well as fer keepin busy, you know the situation so I am able to dust off some of my older builds and decided to post them…

I too liked this build, even though it was a somewhat of a simple paint scheme, she stood out a nd figured why not!! Not everthing has to be complicated!!

The last time I emailed you, the builds that I posted here a few weeks ago are basically as they were!! [sigh]

So you like this one the best?? Why thank you very much, I appreciate that… No worries my friend, time will come to you when you least expect it!!

At the moment, I’d trade anybody for what I am going through so this is the only way that keeps my mind off of things… Kno what I mean!!!

However out of everything that is taking place, I am lookin forward to showing Aaron the ropes of modelling… Well I believe his Gramps will be right behind me[:)]

Thanks again and I am glad you stopped in…

Yeah I know what you mean, Mike. Anything you can do to keep your mind away from that stuff right now. That’s why you come here!!!

I need to try my hand at making a base sometime… it adds so much to the display of a plane. That way you can add vehicles, figures, etc. I’ve got a modern ground crew set, a British ground crew set, and a jeep and a couple moto tugs that want to be used! Ah the life of a college student is so busy [:(]

Hey Max,

Thanks again my friend… Besides thats why they have Winter & Summer Breaks, o and yes, mid terms… Come on, you can fit a lil modeling cant ya… Laughs Been there done that…

Speaking of bases, another chap here Pm’d here about how to do bases… I am going to send you the over all “How To” K?

Tell me what ya think!!

Excellent build there Mike! (you don’t need to send me a check for that one, it’s on the house!) When I built my Tamiya 262, I went for a fairly simple scheme as well. But it didn’t come anywhere near as nice as yours! Thanks for sharing the pics, and I look forward to seeing what you dust off and display next! [tup]

Another beauty Mike. Great job on the base too.

I have seen many a/c in various settings here…

But your background junkyard is particularly effective!

Especially the shot glass…I now have OJ in my nostrils

A/C ‘hard stands’ can be made with popcicle sticks! I’ve used them to make dios and they’re great for 1/48t scale a/c. I soak them in leftover coffee w/the grounds to add color. Cut the rounded tips off and you’ve got planks. Add a little color (oil stains, etc.) and they look great.

I’ve got pics, but their on ZoomBrowser and I can’t get them here.

How can I transfer my pics to Photobucket?

Go to photobucket.com…open an account (email and password)…and they will walk you thru posting and hosting your pics

Great looking build.

Nicely done Mike. She dusted off pretty well [:)].

Regards, Rick

Very nice, Mike! The painting and finish look top notch.

Nice job on a cool jet. The 262’s are intimidating…and at 100 mph faster than the competition I would imagine it wasn’t fun to have to face one in an air battle. I’ll second (or third?) the notion on the bases. You do outstanidng work on them and they really set off the planes. How do you learn to do the base work? Is it trial and error or is there a method to the madness?

Very nice work, The base is great. I have this one in the stash to build one day. Hope it turns out this well.

Very nice work on the plane and the base. I would recommend taking the photos with a more neutral background to eliminate the distracting clutter around your subject. You are trying to showcase your wonderful work, not the miscellaneous items on your workbench.

Great build Mike. Very well presented.[tup]

Great looking Schwalbe!

Hey Frank,

Well ok if you say so…[;)] This was my first 262 and I wanted a simple scheme as well… I want to do another on but this time the scheme will be a little different in the sense that a bunch of GI’s walked upon it w/ a few various schemes applied…

Thank you for the kind words my friend and I may have a few more that I can dust off… Hopefully I can get the ones finished that are on my bunch as I type… Laughs

Hey Marc,

Thank you for the kind words and I am glad that you liked the base as well. Yea know, on a side note… From what I have been reading about my bases from some of yous… Maybe I should write a “How To” for FS so all of you can enjoy the making of bases as much as I do… What do you think Marc?

Thanks again!!
