Me-209V1 Help

Okay “109” guys…

I just got my Huma 209V1 and I’m having difficulty with the prop blade color. My references are all for operational Luftwaffe aircraft, which tells me RLM 70 black-green. The instruction sheet shows overall RLM 24 for everything. I’m building the speed record variant and frankly if there are no real opinions/references I’ll paint the blades silver as that would be a nice contrast.

I don’t know 100%, but if I were a betting man, RLM 70 would be the way to go. Prrety near every Luftwaffe prop from that era was RLM 70, so its just an educated guess.

You also have to remember that a LOT of Luftwaffe props were wooden, not metal. If you see a dark-painted prop, most likely it’s wooden. After a quick google search all reference photos I’ve seen of the Me-209 have the blades dark. So, if you’re going for diferentiation, I would go with the RLM 70, or at least someting that resembles black-green.

Cool; RLM 70 black green is consistent with other references. I was hoping I could use NMF/aluminum, but I’ll stick with what’s most probable.

Thanks all.

Hi Tim,

Recently obtained a copy of Schiffers X planes of the 3rd Reich on the Me209V-1 and this shows the prop in silver/natural metal on the front and a dark colour on the back of the blades.
