I’m curious…have any of you guys come up with alternative methods of detailing and weathering your models? I discovered that finger-nail clippers are the best way to get rid of any little nubs left on a piece after you snap it off the frame. What are your McGuyver techniques?
Here are a few quick ideas I’ve picked up along the way.
Rough cutting sprues? I use the scissor type nail clippers for dogs.
Polishing aircraft canopies or seams? Fingernail buffing boards.
Holding small parts for painting? Alligator clips from Radio Shack.
Removing chrome plating from parts? A quick dip in Clorox bleach.
Substitute for Bare Metal Foil? Thin household cooking foil and gold leaf adhesive.
Removing old decals? Cellophane box sealing tape.
Adhesive for windows, a/c canopies and the like? Future Floor Polish.
The Bare metal replacement is a good one. I found at the dollar store aluminum foil that seems as thin as Bare metal.
I found that 409 cleaner will strip chrome, too.
