mauve kit

Any body know any thing about a mauve kit. I have a chance to get a P-40, and was wondering if they are a good kit? Thanks

Yes, it’s a good kit. It’s the same mold that Eduard uses for its Profipack, but doesn’t include the photoetch and resin extras that Eduard has. It has nicely done recessed panel lines, good fit, and an accurate shape. It’s not quite as detailed as the Hasegawa P-40, but still looks good OOB. I haven’t used the decals that come with it (only those in the Eduard kit, and I don’t know if they are done by the same manufacturer), so can’t comment about the kit decals.

Hope this helps,

Mark

I built their P-40N. Very good kit!

If Mark says it’s good, it’s good! He’s built every P-40 out there.

Supplementing his words, I’ve read many reviews that claim the Mauve/eduard kit is the best of any P-40 in 1/48. I’ve recently bough the Eduard profipack of the P-40N. It’s unbuilt from looks top notch on the sprues.

Thanks for the info, it is a P-40N. And thanks again for the replies.

Richard

Mauve has neen OOB for several years, but the P-40N/M molds were aquired by Eduard. As noted, the Mauve toolng was considered the best of the P-40 kits until the more recent Hasegawa releases. The decals are not great in the Mauve kits, but are useable. The fit is mostly good, but some care is needed fitting the wing root to fuselage. If you want to display the model with the drop tank installed, the kit attaching arms are too short & are best replaced with scratch built arms.

Regards, Rick

Here’s my review of the aforementioned P-40N/M Eduard (Mauve) kit.

Grhornet,
Everything said about the 1/48 Mauve/Eduard P-40N is true…it’s a fantastic kit, and well worth the money.
Here’s some pics of one I finished a short time ago…http://www.finescale.com/FSM/CS/forums/598687/ShowPost.aspx
The only fit problem I found was the rear canopy is a little wider at the bottom than the fuselage…other than that, it’s fantastic.
I used the Eduard decals, and found that they worked very well - as good as many after market decals I’ve used.
Anyway, good luck, and I hope you like the kit.
