Anyone have a close-up shot of the exterior portion of a Maus sighting periscope? The DML kit just gives you the armored housing. It is my understanding that the periscope itself is a unusual design, a black?, coffee-can shaped and sized thing, more like a submarine periscope and nothing like a typical rectangular German periscope. The housing looks rather bare with nothing in there. I’ll even settle for someone elses model photo if it looks half way decent. Thanks.
Just to note everyone, I have the Kubinka photos from jagdtiger.de, the Schiffer book, AFV interiors’ stuff, everything else off the internet I could find and a few other photos, but nothing shows this stupid thing. I need the book; Panzerkampfwagen Maus by Thomas Jentz, but I think it’s out of print and I can’t find it through my normal channels. (Which would allow me to obtain a copy without actually having to pay cash for it, especially handy for books like this one) [;)]
Thanks Robert, but I already have those. Thanks for the effort.
I found only these. But maybe you have them also.

Thanks Dwight, but yes, I have those too.
These drawing are the only reason I have any idea what this thing looks like. [sigh]
Why can’t they show the front? [:(!]
And the funny thing is, even these drawings aren’t correct, they deleted one of the rotating periscopes on the real vehicles, the one directly behind the sighting scope, even though the drawings and the model show it as being there. Even the photos of the turret at the Krupp factory show the hole in the turret where it was to be mounted, later on they welded this hole shut. My guess is that there wasn’t much of a forward view out of this scope, other than the back of the sighting scope! The photos of the destroyed Maus clearly show this scope was not mounted.
I have the Schiffer book on the left. I also had the other book at one time, but now I can’t find it. I think I left it at my parents house some 25 years ago! I bet it’s still there!
This book might come in handy too;

I rarely ever buy a book if my wife can pull some strings at work and get it for free. But these weird Polish ones are too hard for her buddies to find and get a sample copy.
Heck, I’m virtually done with the model, so it’s a little late for me to be looking for books anyway. [D)]

ive got that book
its a good book with scale plans and some great photos
the whole lines good with some new photos
Jon, do they show any views of this pesky periscope in this book? I’ll special order the thing if I know it has what I want.
no ive looked at it today and theres no photos of the thing half the books on the E100
the only close photo is of the Maus now with it empty
i have seen some photos of what it could look like
its a photo of a nightvision device found in a Panther book

it could be a range finder used on the Maus
Interesting photo Jon and thanks for the search. This looks like what I imagined it should, except I am under the impression that the entire body is cylindrical, with a vertical, rectangular lens, or at least that’s what I gathered. Every model I’ve seen has it omitted, so that’s not much help. I think if I can’t find one, I’m just going to wing it. Who’s going to know if it’s wrong? Thanks again for looking.
