Matt enamel finish goes shiney when handled

When airbrushing with matt enamel paints, i get a really nice finish. But, if i accidentally rub or scratch the paint lightly, it goes shiney. This happens after the paint has dried, and has me paranoid about handling the model- a real pain when doing further work on the thing. What am i doing wrong, and how do i get a matt emamel finish that is tuff, resilient, and won’t go shiney on me!?

Thanks,

Dan

Once your model is done and you have applied decals (which do adhere better on a gloss surface), spray it with a flat clear coat to return the matt finish you desire. If you are the type of person with oily skin, you might want to invest in a pair of cloth gloves - not sure where to purchase them, but they are like t-shirt material and have seen them worn when changing delicate light bulbs.

I use disposable white nylon gloves I got from American Science and Surplus: http://www.sciplus.com/

They are $5.75 for 12 pairs: http://www.sciplus.com/singleItem.cfm?terms=6293&cartLogFrom=Search

They work really well for me!

Admit it! You’ve been playinjg with your models!

Ok, we have another modeler here who flys around the house or crawls around on the rug with his finished models. [:D][8D][:D]Dan, www.micromark.com sells white cotton gloves by the package.

Boy do my turtles hate to see that F6F coming around the corner!! HAHA!!

…as do the frogs hate the USS Missouri crusing through their pond!
