Matel Vac-U-Form

In anticipation of getting back into to modeling after a long break I picked a Matel Vac-U-Form on eBay. I had one before, it was only 10 years old then not 40, and would use it for all kinds of stuff. Does anyone have a source for plastic or acetate to use? I remember using acetate sheets that came 8 1/2x11 and I would cut it to size. It was just the right thickness to make great copies and it was thin enough to not have to cut all those holes…. It would punch them just by closing the holder down. Any help with materials and best thicknesses etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Both Micro-Mark and Squadron Mail Order have what you need.

Marc;

If you’re forming doesn’t require a clear finish. A cheap source of styrene are “GARAGE SALE” or “BEWARE OF DOG” signs from the hardware store.

If you require clear I have found Squadron Thermoform sheets worked well.

Additionally if you can find a copy of the Kalmbach How-To Book Building and Finishing Vacuform Aircraft it has a complete coverage of the Mattel Vacuform and all its uses. Included in the chapter is the dimensions for cutting your own pieces with the actual Mattel dimensions. I found mine in a second hand shop for .30 cents and it is well worth that. I hope this helps.

Cheers;

Gregory

There is a seller at Ebay that sells newly made Vac-U-Form sheets in either white or clear. You can find his auction:
