Matching paint

I am going to be doing an A-10 Warthog soon. On previous models I havent worried about matching paint to the actual color of the aircraft, if its a camo green I get close, but I dont try to get the real thing exactly, but I would like to try. How do I go about matching the paint to the plane? I dont even know what paint scheme I will be doing yet, leaning towards a gray scheme…Acrylics is my paint of choice fyi

Also, I recently did pre-shading, along the panel lines and then went over it with light shades of green for a P-38 I’m working on…turned out brilliantly! I will definitly be doing it again, when I do the preshading with black, can I just brush that on? My airbrush skills arent very tidy. Thanks guys!

start with something like this chart set and profiles on Cybermodeler, that will give you the color numbers for your chosen paint scheme

www.cybermodeler.com/resource8.shtml

then, if you want some different recommendations for model paint matches, give this site a look

www.paint4models.com/…/paintconversionchart20100101d.htm

that will let you possibly use your favorite paint line, or try a new one

once you know the colors you want, then you can “do your own thing” with scale effect, shading, etc to get what you want

have fun
