Matchbox Chinook

I’ve got the Matchbox Chinook and found the Eduard PE set designed for it at my local show. Any comments on the old Matchbox kit?

Are you joining the GB, then, Rob??

As to your question, Rob, I’ve only found a review of the italeri/Airfix kit that does not say anything very promising about the Matchbox kit… But maybe it’s an older mold?? Did Matchbox release 2 different Chinook kits??

I got this kit recently on ebay. Love to find out more about it as well:)

cheers

I had the matchbox kit many moons ago.
Not too bad but was very tempted to fill the trenches and rescribe the panel lines.
The Italeri offering is much better

I’ve had the Matchbox Chinook for a long while, back when it was the only Chinook available on the market (the Aurora Chinook was long OOP). I found the PE set for it yesterday at the local IPMS show. The Eduard set says for the Matchbox/Revell kit. One of my local club members was selling some of his kits and among them was a Revell Chinook. We popped it open and it is the Matchbox kit inside.

I’ve seen the Italeri kit and assume it is better. I’ve been impressed with their 1/72 scale helicopters, but am not about to buy another helicopter. I might as well build the old one I’ve got.

BTW, won three 2nd place trophies at the show.

Congrats Rob… What with?

I won 2nd place with the 1/72 PIOModels Berge Panther series 0 in the Military Vehicles 1/48 and smaller category. Also 2nd place with the 1/76 scale Airfix LCM Mk III w/M4A1 Sherman in the Ships 1/600 scale and larger category. Lastly 2nd place with the old Tamiya SAS Jeep in the Softskins 1/35 scale and larger category.

Well done!

Congratulations, Rob!!!

I dug out the kit and finally cracked the plastic. A 1/72 scale Chinook is a big kit. Hopefully, purchasing the Eduard PE set will spur me into building this kit. I’ve entered the Chinook group build.

While the UK markings are more colorful and the I like the the Falklands one, I tend to lean towards US markings. Besides, since I’m heading back down to Kentucky, I’d rather do the Ft. Campbell markings. They look much easier.
