Yeah I thought the same thing as you when I saw the Masterbox announcement. It would have been enough to do nice models of mythological characters, but not according to Masterbox.
I think question 1 gives you the answer for question 2.
PERSEUS is a very nice subject. The figure sure had to be male but also holding the Medusa head. In the way Masterbox reads the Greek Mythology they convert it to Anima art and Perseus a pole dancing girl.
Perhaps not a mistake, but a blatant attempt to appeal to prurient interests. That seems to be the business model of this particular company (and indeed, many others in the figure market).
If you’d really like obscure, there is a debate, I am told, on just how “Greek” Perseus’ name actually is.
Pers+eus can be scanned as sacker/ransacker of cities; an apt name for a warrior.
This gets cloudy as Perse (PYER say) is the daughter of Oceanus, and the longhairs get into serious debate about whether or not that helps formulate Persephone (Purrs Seph Ohn EE), the “angel of death” or not.
However, rendering the classic Greek slayer of the Gorgon, Medusa (May DOO sah), as female would likely offend Homeric tradition more than a little.
(Yeah, I had to bunk with a DsibO with a degree in Classical Anthropology–why do you ask?)
I do have to give Masterbox credit though. They have started a line of 1/24 figures that are not Fallschirmjaegers or Panzer Grenadiers, but rather “ordinary folk” yapping on their cell phone, showing off their beer belly, or hitchhiking (yow, that was risky in the 70s; is it still common practice? Uber? Lyft?). Perhaps other companies will jump in.
Personally I thought she’d make a good Athena.
After all everyone knows Perseus looked a lot like Harry Hamlin… [;)]

I have the whole line of MasterBox 1/24 female Figures .They are indeed " Daring " BUT , I dug in my storage boxes and found some old calenders and they matched exactly . C’mon guys , do we have to really be Politically correct with the past ?
Now as far as Perseus is concerned . I was told HE was a Greek God ! Greek Gods tend to be , Old , Mean Looking , Kick Butt grandpas , or These impossibly fit Young males that are almost pretty !
I personally prefer all the ladies though . Now Athena , OOOF ! ! That’s one beautiful Goddess . Also on the Perseus figure , did you check out the Foot Wings . Did she steal them from the fastest Greek God around , Mercury ? Hmmm ?
Artistic license sells and that’s what companies do . But , I think Masterbox has held a pretty good line between Overboard sexual display and just borderline desirous . Good on them . Lets stop trying to re-do the past . The Flappers of the Twenties and Thirties would even shock some folks today !
Although we see mature Greek Men pictured in Roman Type togas this was not the norm when at home or in the Armed forces .The Kilt Like Mini Skirt was indeed worn . It allowed freedom of movement in a battle and then was cooler than a full covering Toga in the heat . And Yes ! the men were fully covered in personal areas !
Perseus wasn’t a god but a demi-god, mortal mother and immortal father, Zues.
Correct, Perseus was not a God but demi God, mortal, son of Zeus (God) and Danaë (mortal). He was founder of Mycenae. He was the grand father o Heracles (Hercules). The sandals to fly were given to him from Hermes for his athlos to kill Medusa (Gorgon)… To this athlos was given to him also the helm of darkness of Pluto, (to be invinsible), weapons from Hesperides and a mirror polished shield from Athena, to look through Medusa, as direct looking to her, would tern him into stone.
It is such a wonderfull and poetic myth.
In anyway MASTERBOX had to respect and be accurate and not to produce a pol-dance girl, name it PERSEUS and aslo talk about Greek Mythology. How about issuing a George Washington figure in the shape of pin up girl with bikini and call it US history series ? As History and Mythology lover, I am very upset

I stand Corrected . Greek Mythology was not my strong suit in High School or College . But , I did well with things you built or built to build things . Especially if it Floated or Spanned something . I got into the figures because they did remind me of the calendars and other stuff .
NO , We were NOT politically Correct . But , and I think most of you older folks can agree , it was a different world we lived in when younger . Kids today don’t even remember " Duck and Cover" exercises ! Or even know what they were for .
Shoot , I was told by a teen-ager here in the neighborhood ( I was a Bus Stop Monitor ) that she appreciated my service , in the CIVIL WAR !!! The guys were still laughing when the bus arrived .
I walked home , wondering what they are teaching today’s youth . I went to pick up a neighbors Children cause she got stuck with overtime . Shoot , the teachers looked almost to young to teach ! Anyway .Serve me up Pretty or Ugly figures , Male or Female . I am enjoying building and painting all of them .
It’s a nice break from Warships and Old sailing ships . I have only two males right now a 1/24 german tank Commander and a 1/35 guy that came out looking like Joseph Stalin , Before he became the jerk he was .
