masking windows

What is the best, easiest way to make passenger windows on airliners. I habe already installed them.

Appreciate any input, Greg

Hey Greg,
There are actually a few ways that you can mask the windows. The one I prefer is “Liquid mask”. You can apply it via brush and once it sets for about a day, you can paint.
The removal is easy as well. You can use a small piece of tap and lightly tap the surface where the mask was applied. Well at least I like that method.
Other methods are, parafilm(sp), Testers makes this. Its kinda like tape but thinner and it does not stick at first.
To use, cut a piece a little bigger than the object, then stretch it out. This helps the film stick to the surface. Once you have applied it to the windows, rub the film w/ a Q-Tip to get it uniuform and to smooth it down. Then take a sharp Exaco knife and trim around the windows. Then you are all set to paint. Once you are done w/ the painting, use a tooth pick and pick a corner and start to lift the tape, from there the rest will come off with the help of your fingers.
I have also have heard of people using Bare Metal Foil as well. BTW if I am not mistaken, there was a thread about this particular subject posted a while back.
Anywho I hope this helps ya out a bit. I am sure our other forum friends will have other ways as well.

I have to agree with the liquid mask. A recent issue FSM (?March?) had an article on masking canopies which mentioned a number of methods, all of which involved cutting several pieces of some form of adhevisve material (masking tape, metal foil, etc) to cover the windows before painting. I’ve used masking tape, and it is very time consuming. The liquid mask, on the other hand, is simple. Brush it on the area you don’t want painted, let it dry, trim any excess, and start painting. When the paint is dry, peel away the mask and there are your clear windows.

Well what do yaw know, somebody actually agrees w/ me LOL[:p]. I think it was around the month you mentioned keal.
BTW, if you do not mind me asking, where in NY are you from?
