i read in one of the articles that there are pre made masking set,s for specific models who sells them ? I tried to mask off the canopy on my me 109 cyber hobby. and find i do not have the skill to get a good finish and do not want to hand paint it . Help
Eduard makes a pretty complete line of Express Masks. Don’t know if you’re talking about the new 1/32 Bf109E-4 from Cyber Hobby or not, but here’s the link:
squadron or eduard website you canfind them…make sure they are not the vinyl…I hate those…they tend to turn up along the corners…if I dont have a masking set I usually just use scotch tape…the frosted type and a new x-acto blade…the tape is clear enough to see the framing and then just follow along with a new blade burnish down to get a nice clean edge,also…dont forget to dip the canopy in future first…

FUTURE…Floor Finish…its makes the clear canopies clearer and will fill in minor scratches…it will really enhance the clarity…there are various posts on it…also works as a clear gloss coat which makes a great surface for decals. I can be airbrushed, cleans up with windex glass cleaner…

You can also use bare metal foil to mask canopies… I went from Tamiya masking tape to Scotch Tape to the foil and am not looking back… the stuff is great, burnishes down better than anything else, and doesn’t bleed. Just make sure to use a fresh blade when trimming it!
I haven’t yet made the perfect cockpit, but I like the trajectory. Eduard’s or EZ masks are great. However, if you’re going to put the cockpit on the plane and airbrush over it, don’t count on them being immune from bleeding. You might think of brushing on some Future after you’ve masked it so it will act as a kind of wall in case there’s a leaky bit of tape. I’ve had great luck with Magic Tape but only where the surface is very straight. You can see what you’re doing - which is great. And you can literally see the stuff seal. But it won’t bend at all, so you need to use small bits if there are any curves or something projecting from the surface. I’m wondering if Magic Tape and liquid mask might not make a good pair. As for metal foil - next cockpit I make, I’m going to try it. Spot on about a fresh blade - the difference is night and day. And don’t forget, you can repair many kinds of small mistakes with a sharp toothpick.
