Masked and ready for some paint

The wing is mounted - what a pain that was. She is now all masked up and ready for some light gray paint.

For those not already familiar with this one, it’s the Sword 1/72 S-43 Flying Boat in early Marine Corp livery.

Swanny,

Looking great so far.
Wow - I noticed you did the rigging first - then the paint. Any specific reason why you do it in that order ? I’d be nervous about snapping the rigging while I was handling it.

Chris

Looking good so far. Intersting pattern on the canopy masking.

Bossman, The model has two distinct subassemblies and it seemed like it would be overall much easier to do the rigging early then let it acquire some paint when the rest of the model was painted. I did snap one line off during subsequent handling.

Bdelov, this is the Yellow wing version with a black wing walk - it’s a very interesting scheme.

Nice work!
What do you use to mask the engines?

Looking good! I love flying boats and look forward to seeing more of this one,

regards,

Darren.

Moving right along Swanny. It’s a bit of a [censored] kit isn’t it.

Regards, Rick

Gilmund, if you mean the inner area of the engine nacelle, those are packed with tissue paper. I add a drop or two of water to it and pack it n place with a dental pick. Once it drys it will withstand direct air at 20psi from my airbrush without budging. If you mean the outter area of the nacelle, that is masking tape burnished around the panel lines then trimmed with a fresh razor knife.

Rick, there have been a few issues but nothing that awful. My Mach 2 Do-26 was much worse and my Revell B-26 gave me more grief than this has. Consider, consturction started on 2-1-05 and the paint job is nearly complete.

Looking good there swanny - I always find masking is the most exciting bit

Looks great Swanny , you must have put alot of time in this effort , thanks for sharing the pics !!
