I’m looking to do a dio inspired by a BoB scene where Bull gets seperated from the rest and has to hide out in a barn. I’m not sure what would be appropriate for a German vehicle to “park” in front of said barn. I’d really like to use a Jagdpanther, but I’m going for accuracy (reality, not filmograohic) and am not sure if any would have been present in this operation. I’m pretty sure that a 251/1 would fit in, but I’m a little burned out on half-tracks right now. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Also, any recommendations on farmer figures (male and female?)
Being primarily a propeller-head, I don’t have that many armor-related resources. I’m going to go with the Jgdpz IVL/48. I think the simple lines will go well with what I have planned. I’d like to do a scene with the commander outside the hatch, talking with a dispatch rider on a motorcycle. Can you recommend a kit? I hear good things about the DML offering. Thanks for the help!
Hey Hannaman, I can recommend the DML Jgdpz IVL/48–here’s a shot of my build of the “lang 70” version of that kit-the same as the L/48, just with a different sprue in the box ( I also have the L/48 unbuilt!)It’s a nice little kit!
Of course, if you’re going to do the L/48 accurately, you’ll have to do it with zimmerit–the ridged anti-magnetic paste applied to nearly all of the L/48 series…in 1/72 this can be done easily with a sharp Exacto blade–check out this photo of a 1/76 Tiger that I used this technique on…simply scribe it in…its a bit tedious, but worth the effort…
The Concord book states that there were only three Jgdpz IV L/48’s in Oosterbeek; they were of the 9th SS PzJg Abt., and they had NO numbers or tactical markings, only the Nat’l crosses painted on the rear engine-deck side shields. They were finished in Dk Yellow with red-brown and green splotches.

If I were planning this scene as you described I would use a maintenance battalion setting, if I remember the scene correctly, it was just as the Germans were pulling out. If that truely was the case, the most of the Armor would be gone, leaving the infantry and maintenance battalions to cover their retreat.
I know you said you were sick of half tracks, but perhaps a Sd.Kfz 7/1 or Sd.Kfz 11. You can have the remaining infantry loading onto he truck.
One thing I would stay away from would be mobile artillery, as this would be a little in the rear and would not be scene close to the front lines. Hope this helps!
i’m thinking that i have seen some civilian figs in the verlinden line and probably others.i have used some figures from christmas scenes as well as street lamps and other items.please post some pics when you get started. oh ya the xmas figures came from a k-mart so may not be available unless a friendly clerk wants to go digging
the main source of armor for the germans were a lot of halftracks, sdkfz 250’s and 251’s both the new and older versions…many were in a sorry state, with bent up fenders and tool boxes…almost all, if not all, were in dark yellow with green and brown mottling…Tigers and Panthers were very rare in Arnhem and Osterbeek during the battle; however, StuGs were to be seen aplenty…and these had the waffle pattern zimmerit…
I just picked up the Concord publication for myself. However, it was AFTER I bought a StuG III (early.) I don’t see any of the early versions in this book. Does anyone know if they were involved, or were the Market Garden StuG’s exclusively the late G’s?
