Can someone please tell me what the function of E21/E23 was?
Also, I plan to put the drop gate down so I am assuming the part on the left in the bottom pic. The sheet only shows the one part and the gate looking like it is going in closed. I don’t want to be “Dragoned” again by their instruction sheets. Be pretty bonehead to have the thing sticking up in the middle of the open gate.
It has been suggested that it was to support the gun in travel. Would the back of the gun reach that far back? And then would be the purpose of the barrel support that was raised and lowered from inside the fighting compartment.

I’m wracking my brain and I can’t figure it out. Does anything else attach to that piece? It looks like it is a bracket or mount for something, but what?? I do hate DML instructions sometimes…
Hey, in the bottom pic, is that E21 on the left (is E23 on the right)? Are these the same part, just in different positions? Do they have some role in the opening/closing of the gate?
The bottom pivots in the brackets and looks like it could be set parallel to the floor maybe 18" or so. Seems like in that position it might keep the gun from sliding back on its mount while in transit.
It is the rear portion of the gun travel lock. It was designed to secure the rear portion of the Pak 40 at the base of the recoil tray. As you can see from the parts provided, when it wasn’t engaged, it could “break open” so as to avoid interfering with the space for the rear compartment door to allow the crew to move around, load ammo, etc. HTH! Sorry Boyd, I was typing and didn’t see your 2nd question but yes same part in 2 different positions. Bill has confirmed the suspicion. And thanks for that Bill. That notch at the top of the “A” looked like it has to be that.
