I posted this question uder dioramas but thought I might try it here as well. I need to make some tracks in some ground material for a diorama. It will be for my finished M48A2. Anyone out there have any ideas on how to do this? Any and all help is greatly accepted!! [:D] Thanks as always.
In order to avoid getting your base material on your kit, you can cover the base with plastic wrap before making your tracks. You just have to wait for the base to dry a little first. If you do it when it’s still wet, you’ll end up with a mess.
The following This idea assumes you’ve used after-market tracks and have the kit tracks, band-type or individual link, still with you. Apply the groundwork material to the base and let it begin to setup. Take the kit tracks not used, and press into the groundwork, making sure to keep the tracks the proper width apart. You may want to coat the tracks with something that will keep the groundwork from sticking all over the track, such as non-stick cooking spray or even dipping them into water, depending on the type of groundwork used. Band-type tracks are especially useful for this trick, because you get long “runs” to work with.
Not the case. If you do it carefully, the kit tracks will work just fine and you will still be able to put them on the model. Another option is to do it with them on the model. Simply press the whole model into the groundwork. This way also ensures that the tracks are the proper distance apart.
I guess I should have written (and have summarily editied it as such):
“The following idea assumes you’ve used after market tracks…”
As to being careful: well tracks falling off into ground work has been the case with me on a couple of occasions, especially Friuls with some sag in them, despite being as careful as I could.
Did somebody say M48? ooh ooh ooh I have an excuse to post my M48 picture!!! This is the italieri 1/72 kit. Base is good ole sand and elmers glue. I wanted it to look like a bunch were moving in the trail.
