Im wondering how to give plastic models that metal look… mine never turn out to look very metalic. if anyone has a link or something i can look at that would be great
thanks
do you mean making individual parts look like metal or making a tank look like its really made of steel? if it’s the latter youre trying to do, painting on a little bit of metallic color in the areas that are most likely to weather will add a nice effect to your model. just make sure you do it subtly so that it still looks real. good luck.
You can spray your base coat on,which is any flat color you want. This gives your plastic a rough look inwhich you can then brush a steel paint on the areas you want to show as metal.Once dryed and harded you can use liquid masking tape and apply over the steel paint then spray your final coat of paint.Once this is dry then remove your tape allowing your metal color to show through. To dual use a thin wash of flat black. When you have done this you will like the look.It will be very relistic.Digger
If you are looking for a casted metallic looking TEXTURE to plastic, as in a surface that looks like casted metal, spraying on a coat of Mr. Surfacer 500 from Gunze Sanyo as a basecoat creates a surface that looks nearly perfect when dry. I haven’t actually done this, but have seen some good photos of the effects. Also, WW2Modelmaker sells a powder called “cast a coat” that simulates the appearance of metal…here is the link…

Hope this helps…
Humbrol do a paint called Metalcoat you paint it on then wait for it to dry and polish it
