making mud?

In the past I usually made mine pretty clean, but know I’am looking to dirty them up some. I’ve tried mixing up some oil and enamal paints and added in texture, but I can’t seem to find a realistic mixture. So how do you guys do it?

Thanks in advance

it depends. do you want fresh mud, dried mud, light mud, or caked on mud? all have different ways to make them.

Hello!

I would like to show You my way.

I have an extremely simple but very effective recipe.I mix Earth Colors Burnt Umber Liquid Pigment #C1222 with a soft, sandy type of railroad ballast. Both can be found at good hobby shops that deal in train sets.Mix them up then apply the mud to your build. The stuff doesn’t adhere well.Let each application dry before you add another.Shoot some gloss on it,then some dullcoat. This seals just fine. For a wet look, brush on some gloss as a finishing touch.

For damp mud I use fine plaster, mig pigments, mig resin, and tamiya gloss clear x-22

for dry mud fine plaster, migpigments, tamiya flat clear

it just takes some expiermentation

Thanks guys, I’am using some of the same materials mentioned so I will just keep trying to find the right mix.

Go out and get a tupperware container full of real dirt and sift it through fine wedding lace, available in craft/fabric stores, til you get nice, fine dirt powdered dirt. Mix it into various shades of thin acrylic paints[8D][tup][yeah] No matter what artificial brew you come up with YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNOT BEAT THE REAL THING!!!
