Any tips for making lights for head lamps? I need something that looks convincing…
Have a look at aftermarket lenses for trains and cars.
Alternatively hit HLJ and look for H-Eyes and other suppliers that make similar stuff.
I have seen them cover everything from Gundam Eyes, to headlights(round and square) up to wingtip lights for airplanes.
Depending on the size, the head lamps I need can be made by rounding the end of a skewer stick as the “master” form., hollow out the headlight first (Dremel helps here) and paint the inside silver, I then take the plastic from a package of batteries, or similar “blister pack” and melt it until it droops. Then (while the plastic is soft) push the rounded end of the skewer through (ofcourse, you don’t want to go all the way throu, but an inch or so allows you some room to work. You can scribe in the headlight details while the plastic is still on the skewer, then cut the lens off (carefully - you want the lens to be the right size and shape). CA into place - presto! The cheapest aftermarket headlamp avail.
Here’s a pic where I used this technique on my Sherman - they look very convincing (sorry for the quality, my “good” digital camera’s back at the factory).
