Major Horst Carganico's Bf 109G-6

This 1:32 Hasegawa Bf 109 G-6 which is painted and marked as Major Horst Carganico’s winter white washed aircraft. The model went together without any fit problems as all of the Hasegawa 109’s in 1:48th scale do as well, the larger scale is a joy to work with and once you have done a few, I find the smaller scales lack the details that these kits have. The additions I made to the kit were adding Eduard’s pre-painted seatbelts, some fuse wire to cockpit floor, antennae wire made from invisible thread with insulators made from Mico-scale Krystal Clear, FuG 25a antennae made from stretched sprue, True Details weighted resin wheels and some canopy details made from left over P.E. scraps and stretched clear sprue. Most of the kit was completed before the painting process.

Painting: I used Tamiya and Gunze acrylics. All panel lines were pre-shaded with dark grey, followed with RLM 76, 74 and 75. Once the camouflage was dry to touch I painted the white wash using a thin mixture of Gunze flat white. The secret to painting the white is to only cover enough of the underlying camouflage so it appears to show through as if the white has been worn away by the elements. If areas become too white you can add some RLM 74 by misting it on and then the white once again. some panel lines were also re shaded with thinned Tamiya German Grey. Once the white wash had been applied, the lower cowling as well as the wing tips was masked and painted RLM 04 yellow. Once the paint had cured the entire aircraft was coated with Pascoe’s Long Life, this was sprayed on un diluted until the paint was glossy and would provide a smooth surface for the decals. I used Eagle Cals decals for this project. The decals went on quickly since the stencilling was left off. Once the decals had set, I added some weathering with Gunze smoke as well as some chips along the wing area using Model Masters non buffing aluminium, with the weathering done the matte coat was sprayed on and the kit was virtually finished.

Final construction included adding the details to the canopy, the antennae wire, machine gun barrels, pitot tube, and landing gear.

Once again the over all build is rock solid!! Any background info on the build itself, painting, shadings and the like?

Your work is truly amazing and the attention to detail is top notch!! Thank you for sharing Boss

Great looking model, truely, but this is not the way to post stuff on here. Give a brief description of the kit and scale, also any problems that you encountered. That way you will attract more comments on the build and its also just a nicer way to present stuff. Also, Who are you?

Anyhoo, welcome to the forum. Hopefully we’ll see more of your stuff in the future.

Great looking Gustav & the added detail in the pit, visible in the pics, looks spot on. As others said, more detail on the Build would be appreciated.

Regards, Rick

Again, a nicely done model. Weathering is top-notch. Tell us more!

Beautiful, great work on the winter white-wash.

Edit: Ah, welcome back Anthony. Haven’t seen you around any of the boards for a while. Should have recognized your stuff!

Edited the posts for you, and if you have any questions feel free to ask me, most of the kits I build, I build out of the box, I only add brake lines, antennae wire, seat belts and the occasional after market decals. I prefer to spend my time painting then fidgeting with after market accessories, but then again some people enjoy that aspect of the hobby. For me I prefer the painting process, so I tend to build kits that virtually fall together with very little filler needed hence the beautiful Tamiya and Hasegawa kits. I would probably say 95% of the kits I build are from these two manufacturers. If I use any filler it is super glue, Zap or White Out. Then I highly polish the seems to give me a nice smooth finish.

BTW my name is Anthony Manzoli

I lived in Australia for 10 years and have recently moved back to the USA and have only recently started getting my modeling supplies back in order so I can return back to the hobby. I have been modeling since I was a young boy and enjoy sharing my knowledge of the hobby. If there is anything I can offer I will try. I have posted these photos to give some inspiration because I know how inspiring and motivating it is to see others work.

I will be posting more builds as the production line kicks in.

Anthony

Anthony. very nice. Welcome to the Sacramento area. I live in Woodland. If you haven’t found them already, the two hobby shops in the area are Viking Hobbies on El Camino Avenue, and Riverside Hobbies on Folsom Blvd. Bruce’s Train Stop on Marconi is good for many modeling things as well.

What the hell is that sitting on the canopy on the picture of the MAjor. Is that a huge cat or a small dog.
